Words That “Pop”
I know I touched a bit on my love of words on my “About” page. In case you missed it, let me reiterate (as tool-ish as I feel quoting myself):
“Words shape opinions, evoke emotions, set moods, persuade. To put it bluntly, words have power, and it is this power that we can wield to our benefit, or detriment. This is why proper marketing is so crucial; the words you put out there become a consumer’s first impression of your company.”
Sticks and stones may break your bones but words will never hurt you, right? Well, they might not physically harm you, but they CAN cause mental anguish.

Pitching: The Swings, Misses, and Hits
Rejection is not only something every single one of us has experienced, it’s a universal truth for just about every living being on this planet. Chances are good that at some point in your life, you’ve been rejected for a job. Maybe Joe Perfect had a better resume than you. Maybe Cindy Sunshine had a bubblier personality during her interview. But the outcome was the same – someone was chosen over you.
It’s a fact of life, and it happens to the best of us.

Selling the Arch
There's an old saying that goes, "Why do you speak to me of the stones? It's only the arch that matters to me." In writing, it's easy to get caught up in all the minute details that are important to us, the writer. But the reader - the consumer of our material - doesn't necessarily need to hear about every stone, every brick, every bit of mortar. They simply need to know that together they form a good, reliable arch.

Covid-19 and the Creative Mind
Just a friendly reminder that it is absolutely okay if you’re not spending this time in quarantine being extra productive and jumping head-first into your next creative endeavor. Really, it’s okay. Take a breath and bear with me.
Many creative types — whether writer, dancer, artist — put a fair amount of stress on themselves to keep creating. If you’re not off creating some ambitious side project, you’re wasting your time somehow, right? That’s how many of us feel. But I’m here to tell you that we all need to cut ourselves a hefty helping of slack.

The Evolution of Marketing
Ah, vintage ads, how you tickle my feminist bones. But looking at the ads (like this Schlitz beer one that has noooot aged well) made me think of an interesting question. That is; how has advertising changed throughout the years? Overtly sexist overtones aside, the real answer is... Not much.
